A busy, busy, busy week….
Hello forgive me for the lateness of my dissection of the 4th episode of the BBC 2 series ‘Design For Life’ synopsis…..I’ve just been so busy….bless me. Before I begin let me first explain just what this yummy mummy (if I do say so myself) has been up too!
The whitefield takes on awhiteroom project has reached fruition this week which has meant that yours truly has been carting around and installing wardrobes, beds, sofas et al into the newly refurbished show house on the much acclaimed Every Street Elevate project. I was not alone on my mission but accompanied by my much better half David, Lindsay, Stacey, Lee and of course our rising star Yasuyo Cooper….needless to say the house looked fabulous, the street a genteel throwback to a bygone Victorian era and we are all extremely pleased with our efforts…….long may the regeneration of this precious town continue.
Let’s go back then to Monsieur Starck and episode number 4. “Help your tribe to ‘ave a better life” was the brief….in fact the remaining students had to return to the drawing board and reapply themselves to the previous week’s task of designing something useful, sustainable, ecological, ethical and non electronic……six of them returned to last week’s design and continued their quest in earnest. The other two wiped the slate clean and started projects anew. In the end the results were unremarkable but as thus:
Helen continued her theme of home safety and designed a light that could double up as a weapon should anyone decide to break in and threaten you….??
Ilsa persisted on her mission to help the aged.
Ana looked at inventing a plantpot which tilted sideways when the plant needed watering.
Mike added further to his idea for magnetic tablewear….perhaps for the blind?
Robert added some fab branding and pics to his idea for a child’s smoothie maker…..he just forgot to mention how it might actually work.
Trevor seemed to reinvent the wheel as far as Starck was concerned and redesigned an ergonimic child’s seat.
Polly worked hard to create a worktop saver turns into shelves concept, the idea being that this would add much needed room to any bijou space.
Finally Jess homed her creation for a self defence light glove, a device aimed at temporarily blinding any potential attacker.
To be honest it wasn’t the most riveting episode however a few surprises did occur:
My hero Polly was for the chop…travesty…that’s all I’ll say!
Also Ana whose designs were almost as beautiful as her but alas ’twas not to be….
Then there was Robert whose research was impeccable but where were the mechanics…Robert you had the brief TWICE… and so there were no excuses.
Our Helen’s self defence was laughed out of court m’lud!
Trevor: perhaps Starcks’ narcissium showing through…perhaps not…anyway he’s through.
Jess, her glove endorsed by Jasmine Starck endured.
Mike, a clever boy with a safe idea….go Mike!!
Finally our synesthete Northern lass Ilsa re-examined her ‘Synergie’ range and focussed on an older person’s aid for standing up. Perhaps she will triumph as our ‘golden’ girl after all?
