A special evening | Avi Buffalo
There are times when you get a tingling feeling when you see something, a movie scene, a beautiful painting or photograph, a really innovative new design or as in this case a brilliant musical performance. Last night David and Ashley went to see Avi Buffalo performing live at the Deaf Institute in Manchester and it was a real treat. We finished up in the showrrom threw some food down our necks and rushed off with anticipation into the city and into the wonderful atmosphere of the charming old building with a modern and sociable feel. There were two support acts, Alex Hulme and Brown Brogues, we enjoyed both for their energy and the careless thrashing sound of Brown Brogues certainly shook off the tired day that we had carried with us from work. On to the main act and Avi Buffalo; a diminutive appearance reminiscent of Prince but without the glitz Avi (Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg) has amazing stage presence; his brooding dark
eyes and monkeyish cheek had the audience with him from the second he appeared. I have to point out that David thought his jacket looked like Joseph’s technicolour dreamcoat but I liked it, it was that kind of block colour cool only the young kids can carry off. Opening with ‘What’s in it for?’ high energy and catchy repetitive lyrics had people mouthing, jigging and tapping along and it had my favourite lyric too “your lips are like little pieces of bacon”. The high of the night was the enduring and spine tingling instrumental towards the end of ‘remember last time’ The very best of luck to Avi and the rest of his band as they take on Glastonbury this weekend. The night was completed by a stop off on the way home for a Mcflurry, a bit of cold ice cream on a warm night was refreshing. I downloaded Avi’s album this morning and it will be playing in my car for a long time.
