Grrrrrrrrrizzly Bear
My partner in crime in this awhiteroom malarkey is David. We are a team although not necessarily THE a team.
A joiner by trade he’s a practical bod but also a creative soul and talented too. He fairly recently indulged his major passion and studied music for 5 years, successfully graduating from Salford university. Not bad for a lad who left school with nowt as they say round these parts.
He’s recently done what I always knew he’d be great at and started acting. Believe you me I’ve met enough drama queens to know a good one when I meet and marry him! Production number 2 now safetly under his belt (and x1 one overall best actor award to boot…..) I can tell he’s well and truly hooked. I used to listen to his music with some trepidation but when he acts I only have complete faith because he’s so bloody good at it. Ok mission accomplished (Fit Flop boots and Pandora bracelet safetly secured) I’ll try and get to the point.
In a nutshell how do these performers do it? I blush when I’m talking to my kid’s headmistress never mind get up there and strut my stuff. I have only admiration for what they achieve. I met someone on saturday night (another actor) who felt however that being praised for something that she finds really easy to do makes her feel like a fraud, unworthy of the recognition. Her genuine remark made think how strange this world is where a true ability feels guilty and yet we have to put up with talentless wanabees being shoved down our throats day after day.
This year has been a fab one so far, at the start of it I made a concious descision to go out and see whatever and whoever I could……so far I’ve managed Fleetfoxes, Neil Young (with Mr Paul McCartney in tow), Kings of Leon, Tori Amos, John Cooper Clark, Richard Hawley, Maggie O’ Farrell, the Latitude festival (simply amazing), Oasis (ok not so great but I’d never seen them and I’m glad I did before they split up), Simon Armitage, Stuart Maconie, oh and of course “Building Blocks” and “Caught on the Hop”.
Tonight I’m off to see a band introduced to me by my mate Birty………Grizzly Bear are playing in Manchester and I believe they are just magical………..and then (and I can’t wait) on Saturday I’m going to see Morrissey in Liverpool (please don’t be poorly Moz.)
I’ll let you know how it goes…………….
